We are already right in the middle of something exciting, in the age of digitalization and flexibilization of traffic and are increasingly moving towards autonomous driving. To ensure that this change will be a success, new urban mobility concepts must be developed that integrate the new digital services into urban life.
This project is dedicated to the development of an optimized fully autonomous traffic system which takes the individual needs of citizens into account based on new cloud and communication technologies.
Every day, millions of people commute to work, do their shopping and run their errands by car, or transport goods. This transport system requires many resources and a lot of time. A flexible transport system based on autonomous vehicles, as presented in this project, can contribute to a considerable gain in productivity. In the project, intelligent, needs-based and at the same time efficient mobility will be developed.
The results contribute to a new understanding of intelligent traffic by testing autonomous driving as an integral component of a living, municipal reality and by implementing it exemplarily using the city of Aachen, Germany, as an example. The project and the results are showcase for other municipalities which can make direct use of these results and the process logic.

Implementation, testing and validation …
The consortium consists of a vehicle manufacturer (electromobile and autonomous vehicles), technology and software providers of traffic systems, logistics systems and urban logistics, providers of interface design as well as social science and computer science related disciplines (university and university of applied sciences). The project is actively supported by the City of Aachen which is a beacon for innovative and electromobile mobility services thanks to its start-ups in electromobility.
